Everything You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal

I don’t know about you, but shaving has become such a big part of my daily shower routine that it’s almost become second nature for me.

But imagine hopping in the shower and not picking up a razor?

That would leave washing your body and hair and exfoliating from time to time.

What a concept!

Think about how much time you’d save showering if you didn’t have to shave your legs, lady-bits, armpits, and for some, arms and face.

It’s not an impossible idealization because Laser Hair Removal can help you achieve that.

Laser Hair Removal may be a life-changing option if you’re tired of being a slave to your razor and battling daily stubble and in-grown hairs.

Here is everything you need to know about laser hair removal if you’re still on the fence

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser energy penetrates the skin and targets the melanin in the hair follicles.
The heat from the laser weakens or destroys the hair follicle causing it to detach.

The hair sheds, and without the follicle, the hair cannot regrow in that area. It is essential to know that only the hair in the anagen hair phase will respond to the laser, so multiple treatments are required for permanent results.

The ideal time to receive laser hair removal is when the hair is in the anagen phase of a hair cycle. This is when the hair can attract and absorb the most laser energy. Below is an example of the hair cycle.

The Hair Cycle

Who is not a good candidate for laser hair removal?

It is not recommended for:

- people with underlying skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis,

- sunburnt skin

- anyone who has been on Accutane in the past six months

- those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

People with naturally darker skin tones were not considered good candidates in the past, either, since the laser can’t differentiate between the hair and skin well enough to target it.

But new technology in laser equipment (like our cynosure EliteIQ) has made it possible for all skin types to receive the treatment!

At Glo, we use one of the best Laser Hair Removal machines today, which gives clients of all skin and hair types the option of hair removal (I talk more about that below).

How much does it cost?

The cost per treatment ranges from $50 to $325 per session, depending on the area.

Between 6-8 sessions are required for permanent hair removal.

You can find our prices HERE.

This may feel like a significant investment… but if you consider how much you’ll save on razors and time for the remainder of your life, you can see that this is an investment with a good return.

Time is money, gals!

How effective is laser hair removal?

When a hair follicle is just damaged, it will continue to grow; however, it will likely be more delicate and weaker, and the skin will become smoother.

With each additional treatment, the hair will grow back less and less until the follicle is destroyed, successfully stopping hair growth.

The number of treatments will vary from person to person, and touch-ups may be required yearly for the best long-term results.

Where can I get laser hair removal?

At Glo, we offer full-body laser hair removal from head to toe and everywhere.

Is it painful?

No, it’s not, especially in comparison to tweezing and waxing.

As the LASER beam contacts the hair, you will feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin, like a bit of zap. But I wouldn’t call it “pain,” It certainly doesn't linger.

Do I need to prep for laser hair removal?

Yes.

Avoid plucking, waxing or bleaching the hair for four weeks before the treatment. Preserving the root and pigment so that the laser can make contact is imperative for success!

Shave the area to be treated the day or night before the treatment.

Avoid tanning or self-tanner before treatment.

Photosensitive medication should be discontinued for two weeks before your treatment and no Accutane in the past six months.
